Action Rifle Shotgun and Pistol shooting is a sport in which competitors are required to combine accuracy, speed, and power to successfully complete many different types of shooting "problems". 3-Gun competitors solve these problems with three different types of weapons. Competitors use Rifles (such as the AR15, the civilian version of the military M-16, Mini 14’s, M1A’s AK variants, M1’s, HK’s, FAL’s, CETME’s to name a few, and of course Shotguns, varying from standard pump actions to Semi Auto with high capacity magazines to avoid time loss during reloading. Any Legal STYLE Shotgun is allowed, Law Enforcement are allowed their duty weapons if they so choose, however shorter barrels are a disadvantage at some of the longer slug shots.
Pistols run the gamut from 1911 45’s to Beretta 92’s , S&W variations and of course members of the Glock family, any will work, even revolvers if you happen to be a wheel gun aficionado, just remember reloading is a time consuming action and the clock is running from your start to your last shot fired and this is all 3 guns in succession, starting with your rifle, changing to Shotgun or Pistol then changing again however the course of fire is set up. More information on weapons is in the section at the end of this web site.

Unlike bull’s eye, skeet, or hunter's pistol, Action Rifle practical shooting matches are different every time, requiring competitors to be diverse in their training.  On any given stage, a shooter may be required to shoot targets at distances varying from 2 yards to 100 yards, or further.
Sometimes the targets are paper, sometimes they are steel.  Some shotgun targets are engaged with small shot loads, others with slugs.  Often "no-shoot" or "Hostage" targets, which incur a penalty when hit, are placed near normal "shoot" targets.  Realistic props are used to simulate different scenarios that the shooter must complete.

Action Rifle / 3 Gun shooting competition is what you want to make of it.  Some competitors emphasize the Action aspect, using their normal familiar gun to develop their self-defense skills and test their equipment in realistic situations.  Other competitors emphasize the game element of the competition, using equipment they acknowledge lacks practical use, but which improves their ability to generate high scores and low times at competitive events. Each competitor must decide how he or she wants to approach the match.
All firearms used in RBGC Action Rifle matches must be safe and serviceable. They are subject to inspection by the Range Officers at any time and may be withdrawn from the match if deemed unsafe.  The basic criterion for a 3-gun competition firearm is that it is safe, accurate and reliable.
Competitors also approach 3-gun matches with different attitudes; for some the match is part practice, part social occasion and mainly enjoy the challenge and fun aspects of the sport without taking things too seriously.  At the other end are the serious competitors who are always looking for a quicker time through the course and a few points advantage on their fellow competitors! Much like golf or bowling, 3-gun is a sport for the pure enjoyment and stress relief it may bring the competitor.

Denny Moore shoots off the "fence post".

In closing, our safety record is spotless entering our 8th season and I promise you it will remain this way, no accidents or unsafe acts will be tolerated, as you know. I run a safe and secure range. I would like to thank my loyal shooters from over the years for coming out and supporting our sport!
